Is Your Concept Of God Deprived?
Isaiah 40:26
The people of God during Isaiah's era had stifled their creativity by fixating on idols, prompting Isaiah to direct their gaze towards the heavens, so encouraging them to utilize their imagination properly. To a saint, nature is sacramental. As children of God, we own an immense treasure in Nature. In every gust of wind, in every night and day throughout the year, in every celestial sign, and in every bloom and decay of the ground, there exists a genuine manifestation of God if we merely employ our undernourished imagination to perceive it.
The examination of spiritual focus involves subjugating the imagination. Does your imagination contemplate the visage of an idol? Is the idol you? What is your occupation? What is your definition of an ideal worker? What is your experience of salvation and sanctification? Your conception of God is impoverished, and in the face of adversity, you possess no strength; you can merely persevere in obscurity. If your imagination is lacking, do not rely on your own experiences; it is divine inspiration you require. Exit your own confines, distancing yourself from the visage of your idols and from anything that has been stifling your creativity.
Awaken, accept the gift that Isaiah bestowed upon the people, and consciously direct your mind towards God. A contributing factor to the stultification of prayer is the absence of imagination and the inability to consciously present ourselves before God. We must learn to be sacrificial, like broken bread and poured-out wine, in the realm of intercession rather than in personal interactions. Imagination is the divine ability bestowed upon a saint to transcend his own existence and engage in connections hitherto unexperienced.
Isaiah 40:26 (NIV) states:
*"Raise your gaze and observe the skies: who is the architect of all these?" He who enumerates the celestial bodies individually and designates each by name. Due to his immense might and formidable strength, none of them is absent.*
This verse highlights several key points.
1. **Divine Sovereignty in Creation** The text encourages us to gaze toward the heavens and acknowledge God's authority as the Creator. It underscores His ultimate sovereignty and dominion over the expanse of the universe. The stars and celestial bodies are not arbitrary but purposefully designed by God.
2. **The Direct Engagement of God** This phrase emphasizes God's personal involvement in creation rather than being a mere general assertion. He not only fashioned the stars, but He also designates them by name. This demonstrates His profound and intentional connection with His creation.
3. **Divine Power and Strength** The verse emphasizes the profound **strength** and **force** of God. His capacity to identify and designate each star demonstrates His boundless power and authority, serving as a reminder of His competence in all matters.
4. **God’s Attention to Detail**
- Every star is **enumerated**—none is absent. This illustrates God's meticulousness and His concern for His creation, including the minutest details. If God is attentive to the stars, we can be assured that He is also attentive to us.
5. **An Appeal for Faith and Trust** By contemplating the greatness of God’s power in creation, we are encouraged to place our **trust** in His ability to handle the challenges we face. If God can manage the cosmos, surely He can care for the needs of His people.
6. **Divine Fidelity** The stars being called by name and not being missing also speaks to God’s **faithfulness**. Similar to the constancy of stars, God's promises are unwavering, and He stays steadfast in His faithfulness to His people.
These aspects underscore both God's magnificence and His connection with creation, as well as His unwavering supply.
