Spiritual Living

“How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” Psalms 119:103

How do we develop a palate for God’s word?

There are three agencies for arriving at this destination. Herein we find experiential knowledge discovered by ear, mouth, and eyes.

First the ear is essential because FAITH comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Rom 10:17

Second the mouth is essential for developing a palate keen to taste.

Psalm 34:8 declares, “O TASTE and SEE that the Lord is good”.

The Israelites experienced evaluative sampling after discovering the manna in the wilderness. “And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.” Ex. 16:31

Once the Israelites had tasted the manna, it provided unequivocal evidence of the Lords goodness.

Third, ta’am suggests DISCERNMENT”, the capacity to select and delight in good things.

Proverbs 31:18, speaks to this narrative describing a woman with good taste, who “perceived that her merchandise is of high quality.”

Finally, 1st Peter 2:3c provides clear INSIGHT from the word of God concerning Christ substitutionary death and His redemptive power having TASTED death for each of us.
