The Abandoned Existence
Galatians 2:20
No individual is truly liberated by Jesus Christ until they are prepared to abandon not only sin but also their entire perspective on life. To be reborn via the Spirit of God necessitates yielding before grasping; initially, it involves the abandonment of every pretense. What our Lord desires from us is not virtue, honesty, or effort, but rather our genuine, substantial sins; that is all He can accept from us. What does He offer in return for our transgressions? Genuine and unwavering integrity. We must abandon all pretension of significance and any assertion of deserving God's attention.
Subsequently, the Spirit of God will reveal what other elements we must surrender. I must renounce my claim to my autonomy in every aspect. Am I prepared to surrender my attachment to all that I own, my emotional ties, and everything else, in order to be associated with the death of Jesus Christ?
A profound and terrible disillusionment often precedes our relinquishment. When an individual perceives himself as the Lord perceives him, it is not the detestable crimes of the flesh that disturb him, but the dreadful essence of the pride within his own heart in opposition to Jesus Christ. Upon perceiving himself in the illumination of the Lord, the feelings of guilt, disgust, and profound conviction resurface.
If faced with the dilemma of relinquishment, endure the crisis, surrender everything, and God will prepare you for everything that He demands of you.
1. Union with Christ in His Crucifixion - “I have been crucified with Christ.” The believer's former self is spiritually crucified with Christ. This denotes the conclusion of a life governed by sin and legalism.
2. Christ Residing Within the Believer – “It is no longer I who exist, but Christ who exists in me.”The Christian life is characterized not by personal endeavor but by the presence and power of Christ operating within the believer.Transformation transpires as Christ assumes authority.
3. Faith as the New Paradigm of Existence – “The life I currently lead in the corporeal realm, I conduct through faith in the Son of God.”The believer's existence, even while embodied, is characterized by faith in Christ.• Faith supplants reliance on deeds or the law for righteousness.
4. The Affection and Self-Sacrifice of Christ – “Who loved me and surrendered himself for me.”• The love of Christ is both personal and sacrificial. • His atonement serves as the foundation for the believer's renewed existence.
