Compliance

Romans 6:16

The initial step in understanding the power that subjugates me is to acknowledge the disagreeable truth that I am accountable for my subjugation. If I am enslaved by my own desires, I must accept responsibility, as I succumbed to them at an earlier time. Similarly, my obedience to God stems from my submission to Him.

Succumb to selfishness in childhood, and you will discover it to be the most oppressive dictatorship on earth. The human soul lacks the inherent power to liberate itself from the constraints of a disposition established via acquiescence. Succumb for even a moment to any form of lust (recall that lust signifies: “I must possess it immediately,” whether it pertains to physical want or mental craving) - once you submit, although you may retain a semblance of self-control, you become a bound slave to that desire. Human power offers no liberation; only Redemption provides it. You must submit in complete humiliation to the sole entity capable of dismantling the prevailing authority, the Lord Jesus Christ - “He hath anointed me…to preach deliverance to all captives.”

You discover this in the most little manners—“Oh, I can relinquish that habit at my discretion.” You cannot escape; the habit will completely control you because you have acquiesced to it voluntarily. It is simple to proclaim, “He will break every fetter,” while yet leading a life of evident subjugation to oneself. Submitting to Jesus will dismantle all forms of bondage in any individual’s life.

  1. Servitude is a Volition - Every individual yields to something, be it sin or virtue. Your decisions dictate your dominion.

  2. Obedience Determines Allegiance - Whom you obey discloses your genuine spiritual allegiance—either to sin resulting in destruction or to God resulting in life.

  3. Sin Leads to Death - Succumbing to sin causes spiritual estrangement from God, culminating in ultimate annihilation.

  4. Righteousness Results in Life - Compliance with God yields sanctity, metamorphosis, and everlasting life.

  5. You Cannot Serve Two Masters - There exists no intermediary position; one must select whom to serve.

  6. Daily Submission is Crucial - Your actions and decisions continuously position you in alignment with either virtue or vice.

  7. Freedom by Obedience - Authentic freedom is attained by servitude to Christ, rather than the fallacy of autonomy from God.
